Big South Announces Women's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 20

Lilly Short (Georgetown, Del.) has been named the Big South Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb’s
Savannah Dixon (Raleigh, N.C.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 13-19, it was announced today. In addition, High Point’s
Joellie Giquinto (Medford Lakes, N.J.) and Winthrop’s
Lindsay Sheets (Lake Mary, Fla.) have been selected as the Co-Freshmen of the Week.
Short scored three goals in two games for Radford, including both in a 2-1 win over High Point. She totaled six points on eight shots, with six on target. The senior opened the week with two second-half goals against the Panthers, scoring in the 50th and 57th minutes to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead. She followed with another 57th-minute goal at Winthrop on Saturday night. Short played 177 of the 180 total minutes on the week.
Dixon totaled 15 saves and recorded two shutouts in Gardner-Webb’s 1-0-1 unbeaten week. She finished with a perfect 1.000 save percentage on 36 shots faced. The senior made four saves on 12 shots in a scoreless draw at UNC Asheville to open the week. She then set a career high with 11 saves in a 1-0 victory at USC Upstate on Saturday night, including a penalty-kick stop in the 56th minute and three additional saves in the final 10 minutes. The Runnin’ Bulldogs became just the second team to shut out the Spartans this season and the first in league play.
Giquinto recorded an assist in each of High Point’s two games last week. She set up Sabba Haghgoo’s goal in the 88th minute to cut the deficit to one at Radford on Wednesday. The freshman then assisted Bella Burr’s 62nd-minute goal in a 2-0 home win over UNC Asheville on Saturday. Giquinto played 174 of 180 total minutes on the week.
Sheets tallied two assists in Winthrop’s 3-2 win over Radford, as the Eagles became the first team to hand the Highlanders a conference loss this season. In the fourth minute, she split the defense with a pass to Cordelia McIntosh for the opening goal, then found Monssi Avila-Gutierrez in the ninth minute to extend the lead to 2-0. She also placed one shot on goal. Sheets totaled 114 minutes across two games on the week.
