Big South Announces Volleyball Players of the Week - Oct. 27

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Winthrop outside hitter Paige Bennett  (Pleasanton, CA) has been selected the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 20-Oct. 26, it was announced today. In addition fellow Eagle Rachel McCollum (Lakeland, Tenn.) is the Setter of the Week while Gardner-Webb's Nalani McBride (Stafford, Va.) was voted the Libero of the Week. High Point’s Maya Bukovcan (Ottawa, Ontario) has been named the Freshman of the Week.

Bennett led the offensive output for the Eagles on the week, helping Winthrop to two conference victories. She led the Winthrop attack with 31 kills and a .319 hitting efficiency, good for second in the Big South with 3.88 kills per set. Defensively, she ranked third on the team in digs for the weekend, picking up 23 digs for 2.88 per set. On Friday, Bennett recorded a match-best 17 kills while recording a .452 hitting efficiency. 

McCollum dished out a league-best 85 assists on the weekend to facilitate the Winthrop offense to two victories. Her 10.63 assists per set was the second-best mark in the conference over the weekend. Against High Point McCollum recorded 48 assists and fell one dig and one kill shy of her third triple-double of the season, tallying nine of each.

McBride helped lead Gardner-Webb to a 2-1 week. She picked up 65 digs on the week, good for 5.91 per set. She continues to lead the nation in digs (530) and ranks second in digs per set (5.64). Offensively she added 10 assists and three service aces to compliment her defensive numbers. 

Bukovcan totaled 14 kills on the weekend, including 11 in a matchup against Winthrop Saturday while recording a .345 hitting efficiency on the weekend. She also added nine blocks across High Point’s two matches, including a match-leading five blocks in Rock Hill on Saturday.
