BEIJING, China - UNC Asheville Men's Tennis alum
Henry Patten recently captured the men's doubles title with partner
Harri Heliövaara at the ATP's China Open.
The pair came into the tournament as the No. 3 seed, first dispatching Alejandro Davidovich Jokina (Spain)/Alex de Minaur (Australia) 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 16. The duo then defeated Yunchaokete Bu (China)/Cameron Norrie (Great Britain) 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinal to advance. The duo then beat Guido Andreozzi (Argentina)/Manuel Guinard (France) 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3) in the semifinal, before grinding out a 4-6, 6-3 10-8 win over Karen Khachanov and Andrew Rublev of Russia to take the title.
Including major wins at Wimbledon and the Australian Open, this is Patten's sixth career professional title.

A 2019 graduate of UNC Asheville, Patten was an Intercollegiate Tennis Association ITA) All-American in doubles and a three-time Big South Conference Player of the Year. He was a four-time Big South Conference First Team All-Conference selection in singles play, and a three-time First Team All-Conference selection in doubles play. He was a seven-time Player of the Week selection, and a two-time Freshman of the Week selection. Patten also made an appearance in the 2019 NCAA Division I national tournament for both singles and doubles. Patten was also an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2019. He and Olli Nolan also won an Oracle ITA Fall National Championship in 2018.
