Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Oct. 6

Daniel Lugo (St. Petersburg, Fla.) has been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate
Beau Yantz (Redondo Beach, Calif.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 29-Oct. 5, it was announced today. In addition, Winthrop midfielder
Jayco Castro (Lenoir, N.C.) is the Freshman of the Week.
Lugo scored a goal and assisted on the game’s first tally in leading the Panthers to a 4-0 victory at UNC Asheville on Saturday. It was his second three-point performance of the season, while his goal in the 66th minute of the contest was his Big South-leading seventh of the year.
Yantz spearheaded High Point’s defense in holding Asheville to no shots on goal, and just three total shots overall on Saturday, including none in the opening half. Yantz helped HPU to its fourth clean sheet of the year, and also contributed his first goal of the season at 15:37 for the eventual game-winner.
Castro scored his first collegiate goal in Winthrop’s 3-1 win over Radford for the squad’s first victory of the season. His tally at 85:51 provided the Eagles with an insurance goal. In the 82nd minute, Castro won a ball at midfield and dribbled down the middle that began the process of Winthrop’s second goal of the contest.
