Big South Announces Volleyball Players of the Week - Oct. 6

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – High Point outside hitter Élodie Lalonde (Ottawa, Ontario) has been selected the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 29-Oct. 5, it was announced today.  In addition, USC Upstate’s Kamyla Vega David (Carolina, Puerto Rico) is the Setter of the Week, UNC Asheville’s Michelle Thao (Hickory, N.C.) was voted the Libero of the Week, and Radford right side/outside hitter Olivia Ryno (Jacksonville, Fla.) earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors.
 
Lalonde averaged 4.11 kills per set (37 total) and 4.72 points per set (42.5 total) in HPU’s two matches last week.  She led both contests in kills with 19 against Winthrop and 18 against Gardner-Webb, and finished the weekend with a .387 hitting percentage.  Lalonde recorded a career-high five blocks against GWU and finished with seven blocks for the week, along with two service aces and 12 digs.
 
Vega David recorded 95 assists, 19 digs, four service aces and four blocks in the Spartans’ two wins.  She first matched her career-high for assists in recording her league-best fifth 50-assist match of the season with 55 in a 3-2 win over Presbyterian, in addition to 13 digs and four blocks against the Blue Hose.  Vega David then recorded 40 assists in a 3-0 sweep of Charleston Southern on Saturday to finish the week with 11.88 assists per set.
 
Thao recorded back-to-back 30-dig matches and finished second on the squad with three service aces last week.  She first had a season-high tying 34 digs in a four-set setback to Charleston Southern on Friday.  Thao followed with 31 digs to help the Bulldogs defeat Presbyterian on Saturday, 3-1.  She averaged 8.12 digs across the two matches and finished the weekend with a 92.6 reception percentage.
 
Ryno played a key role in Radford’s 3-2 win over Winthrop on Saturday, which marked the Highlanders’ first win over the Eagles since 2018.  She posted a career-high 22 kills and hit .386 while contributing 24.5 points, two service aces and two assists in the victory.  Ryno tallied 13 kills and hit .407 on Friday night against Gardner-webb, along with eight digs on the evening.
