Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Dec. 8

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Winthrop center Logan Duncomb (Cincinnati, Ohio) and USC Upstate’s Mason Bendinger (Salt Lake City, Utah) have been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, while Gardner-Webb guard Spence Sims (Fairhope, Ala.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree for games played Dec. 1-7, it was announced today.

Duncomb averaged 22.0 points, 9.0 rebounds (4.0 offensive), 2.5 blocks, 1.0 assists and 69.6 percent from the field in games at LIU and against Coastal Carolina.  He opened the week with a career-high 28 points in the Eagles’ overtime win at LIU, along with six boards and three blocks while going 11-of-13 from the floor.  Duncomb tied the game twice late in the contest with free throws, and scored the first four points of OT.  Against Coastal, he posted a double-double with 16 points and a career-best 12 rebounds, in addition to two blocked shots.

Bendinger helped the Spartans post wins over Coastal Carolina and Western Carolina with 21.0 points and 5.5 rebounds, and was 12-of-25 from the field ( =48.0 percent) and 17-of-22 from the charity stripe ( =77.3).  He scored a career-high 27 points in Upstate’s comeback overtime win over Coastal, which included 12 free throws and five caroms.  Bendinger then tied for the team-high with 15 points vs. the Catamounts, as he was 5-of-9 from the floor with six boards.
 
Sims averaged 17.5 points in games at Queens and at home against Georgia Southern last week.  He first tied for the team lead with 15 points against the Royals, as he was 6-of-9 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range.  Sims followed with a career-high 20 points along with two assists against Georgia Southern.  He shot 50.0 percent from beyond the arc (4-of-8) and made all four free throws in that contest.  For the week, Sims shot 57.1 percent overall (12-of-21) and 63.6 percent from long distance (7-of-11).
