CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Radford attacker
Alyssa Yost (Glen Burnie, Md.) has been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Highlanders goalkeeper
Ava LaManna (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played during the opening weekend of the 2025 regular season, it was announced today. In addition, Longwood attacker
Alexandra Hirst (Pinehurst, N.C.) has been named the Freshman of the Week.
In her collegiate debut, Yost scored six goals on eight shots with five draw controls and one ground ball in Radford’s season opener against George Mason. She committed no turnovers and converted her lone free-position attempt. Yost scored her first career goal as a Highlander at the 6:49 mark of the first quarter to give Radford a 2-1 lead. She added two goals in the third quarter and three more in the fourth, including back-to-back scores just 21 seconds apart.
LaManna made 21 saves in her first career start for Radford, the second-most saves in Big South history and the most by a conference player since 2015. She finished with a .568 save percentage while allowing just 16 goals on 43 shots faced. The sophomore goalkeeper tallied six saves in the first quarter, followed by three in the second, seven in the third and five in the fourth. LaManna’s 21 saves are the second most in the nation for a single game this season.
Hirst posted a hat trick for Longwood in her collegiate debut at Old Dominion. Her three goals came on five shots and accounted for half of the Lancers’ six goals in Friday’s season opener. She also added a draw control. Hirst scored all three goals in the second half, with her first career goal coming at the 12:03 mark in the third quarter. She tallied her second goal with 17 seconds remaining in the frame to make it a three-goal game before adding a third with 7:45 to play in the fourth quarter.
