Big South Announces Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Feb. 13
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions during the weekend of Feb. 6-9.
High Point’s
Brianna Malone (Barrington, N.H.) was selected the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate
Sydney Horn (Lancaster, Pa.) earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors. Radford’s
Jeylah Hamrick (Williamsburg, Va.) was tabbed the Women’s Freshman of the Week.
Malone broke the Big South record in the mile run at the Doc Hale Meet with her school-record time of 4:35.62 -- bettering the old conference mark of 4:38.52 established in 2002 that won the NCAA Indoor National Championship. Malone also ran the 800m and finished fifth with a time of 2:08.81.
Horn posted a season-best clearance of 4.48m in the pole vault at the Doc Hale Meet. She finished second in the event, and moved up to No. 8 nationally.
Hamrick won the 400m at the Liberty Open with a PR time of 55.88 for her second-straight win in the event. The performance is second-fastest all-time in program history, as well as No. 2 in the conference this season. Hamrick also helped the 4x400m relay team finish in a school-record time of 3:49.97.
