Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Feb. 17

Catherine Alben (Snellville, Ga.) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while USC Upstate guard
Cassie Gallagher (Cookeville, Tenn.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Feb. 10-16, it was announced today.
Alben averaged 24.0 points on 64.3 percent shooting (18-of-28) with 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals in two Charleston Southern victories. She shot 54.5 percent from three (6-of-11) and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line (6-of-7). In a victory over Presbyterian on Wednesday, Alben tallied 25 points, four rebounds, and five assists on 10-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. On Saturday, she scored 23 points with three rebounds and two steals against UNC Asheville, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the line to help the Buccaneers overcome a five-point halftime deficit.
Gallagher led all Big South freshmen in scoring last week, averaging 17.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assist in two USC Upstate wins. She shot 40.7 percent from the field (11-of-27) and 42.9 percent from three (9-of-21). Gallagher scored 17 points—one shy of her career-high—along with three rebounds and a block against UNC Asheville. She matched that with another 17-point performance against Gardner-Webb, hitting five threes while adding three rebounds, two assists, and one steal. She also went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line for the week.
