Big South Announces Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Feb. 20
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions during the weekend of Feb. 13-16.
High Point’s
Brianna Malone (Barrington, N.H.) was selected the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate
Sydney Horn (Lancaster, Pa.) earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors. HPU’s
Emily Romano (Glen Allen, Va.) was tabbed the Women’s Freshman of the Week.
Malone broke her third Big South Conference indoor record, this time in the 3,000m at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. She crossed the finish line in 9:09.58 -- bettering the previous conference record by :14 seconds that was set in 1998, and placed 27th overall out of 253 competitors.
Horn posted a season-best clearance of 4.50m in the pole vault at Division I Pre-Nationals Meet. She was .01 meters shy of her own Big South record, and clinched her third victory in the event this season.
Romano also competed at the Pre-Nationals Meet and cleared 3.65m in the pole vault to tie for third-place.
