Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Feb. 24

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– High Point guard Jaleesa Lawrence (Meridian, Idaho) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb guard Kendall Scott (Fredericksburg, Va.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Feb. 17-23, it was announced today.
 
Lawrence averaged 17.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals in two wins, helping High Point secure at least a share of the Big South regular-season title for the second straight year. She shot 54.5 percent from the field (12-of-22) and 81.8 percent from the free-throw line (9-of-11). The senior delivered a season-high 20 points, eight rebounds (including six offensive), and four assists in Wednesday’s 16-point win at Charleston Southern. Her four assists also matched a season high. Lawrence followed with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals in Saturday’s 71-63 victory over Gardner-Webb. Across both games, she played 73 minutes with just four total turnovers.
 
Scott averaged 18.0 points and 3.5 rebounds for the Runnin’ Bulldogs, recording back-to-back 18-point performances—a career high. She shot 50.0 percent from the field (12-of-24), 71.4 percent from three (5-of-7), and was a perfect 7-for-7 at the free-throw line. On Wednesday against Longwood, the freshman tallied 18 points in just 24 minutes off the bench, shooting 5-of-10 from the field, 2-of-3 from deep, and 6-of-6 at the line. Scott then made her second career start Saturday at High Point, playing all 40 minutes and matching her 18-point effort while adding five rebounds and a steal. She shot 7-of-14 overall and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
