Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Feb. 3

Darryl Simmons II (Detroit, Mich.) has been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville guard/forward
Kameron Taylor (Charlotte, N.C.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree for games played Jan. 27-Feb. 2, it was announced today.
Simmons averaged 29.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 54.5 percent from three-point range (12-of-22) and 51.3 percent overall from the field (20-of-39) in two games last week. He opened with 19 points, five boards and three assists in Gardner-Webb’s home victory over Longwood last Wednesday. Simmons then netted a career-high 40 points in Saturday’s three-point loss at Winthrop. He made 8-of-12 three-pointers, shot 59.1 percent from the field overall (13-of-22) and made all six free throws in recording the Big South’s first 40-point performance in two seasons.
Taylor started his first conference game of the season and second overall last Wednesday against Radford, and tallied a game- and career-high eight rebounds along with scoring 14 points in the Bulldogs’ seven-point victory. He was 6-of-11 from the floor ( =54.5 percent) with one three-pointer to help Asheville extend its win streak to six games.
