Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Feb. 3

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– Charleston Southern guard Catherine Alben (Snellville, Ga.) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while USC Upstate guard Gwen Jenkins (Columbus, Ohio) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 27-Feb. 2, it was announced today.
 
Alben averaged 19.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists to help Charleston Southern extend its winning streak to four games, its longest since 2018-19. She recorded 19 points, six rebounds and two assists in a four-point win over USC Upstate, scoring six points in the fourth quarter. She also set a season-high with eight made free throws (8-of-12) and surpassed 1,000 career points in the victory. On Saturday, Alben again scored 19 points, adding three assists and a steal as the Buccaneers defeated first-place Longwood. She went 4-of-7 from three-point range and finished the week shooting 7-of-15 ( =46.7 percent) from beyond the arc.
 
Jenkins shot 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the field while averaging 8.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists over two games for the Spartans. She opened the week with nine points, a career-high five assists and three rebounds in a career-high 29 minutes at Charleston Southern. On Saturday against Radford, she added eight points, a career-high five rebounds and one assist, shooting 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the field. For the week, Jenkins went 1-of-2 ( =50.0 percent) from the perimeter and 2-of-2 ( =100.0 percent) from the free-throw line.
