Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - March 11

Emma Jackson (Lexington, N.C.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week, while Radford's
Dakota Redmon (Stokesdale, N.C.) is the Pitcher of the Week for games played March 3-9, it was announced today. In addition, USC Upstate's
Sophia Kardatzke (Jacksonville, Fla.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.
Jackson batted .500 (10-20) with nine runs scored, six RBI, one double, three home runs and walked seven times for an on-base percentage of .630 in seven games. She began the week homering in the bottom of the first against Youngstown State to spark a 3-run inning. Then she led off the bottom of the second with a home run, which proved to be the game-winning run in an 8-3 win. Jackson Led off the sixth and scored on a home run. In the next game against Mount St. Mary’s, she drove in a run with a single and also scored in a 4-run second inning. In the win over Norfolk State, she led off the bottom of the first with a home run and walked in her second at-bat of the inning. Jackson singled in her first three at-bats vs. Western Carolina and in the third one drove in a run. In the final game of the week, a 4-2 win over Western Carolina, she was 1-1 with three walks.
Redmon led the Highlanders pitching staff this past week with a 1.84 ERA over a team-high 19 innings pitched. She struck out 18 batters leading Radford to wins over Sacred Heart and Fordham while coming up just short in a one-run loss to weekend hosts James Madison. In her first game of the week, Redmon dialed up the first shutout of her career over six innings of work striking out seven batters while not allowing her first baserunner until the fifth inning. In the win over Fordham, she once again took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, striking out seven more batters.
Kardatzke hit .400 (6-15) with six runs runs scored and seven driven in, along with two doubles, two homers, four walks and three steals. She hit home runs against the College of Charleston and Bryant. Kardatzke tallied multi-hit games vs. CofC and Bryant, and had two steals against Stetson.
