Big South Announces Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week - March 11

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Mercer senior midfielder Abby Morrison (Hampstead, Md.) has been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while the Bears’ sophomore midfielder Ansley Walters (Canton, Ga.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for games played March 3-9, it was announced today. In addition, Furman attacker Lily Toole (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) has been named the Freshman of the Week.
 
Morrison scored a career-high five goals in a career-best six-point performance to lead Mercer to its first win in program history over a Big 12 opponent in UC Davis. She also had a team high three goals at Arizona State. The senior scored Mercer’s first two goals against UC Davis and assisted on the third, helping the Bears jump out to a 3-1 lead. She added two goals in the third quarter and another in the fourth to cap off the team’s historic win, 18-11. 
 
Walters had a game-high four caused turnovers at Arizona State. She also tied for the team lead with five draw controls while leading the team with two assists in Mercer’s historic victory over a Big 12 foe in UC Davis. 
 
Toole tallied 10 points on eight goals and two assists in Furman’s games last week versus Detroit Mercy and UMBC. She added one ground ball and one caused turnover. Toole tied her career high of five points in both games as the Paladins posted a 1-1 record highlighted by an 18-12 victory over Detroit Mercy, in which she netted a hat trick while setting a new career high with two assists. She then tied her career best of five goals in a road game at UMBC.
 
Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Anna Roser (Furman), Esprit Cha (High Point), Kenzie Partsch (Presbyterian), Scarlett Cifarelli (Winthrop) and Bria Foley (Wofford). 
 
Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Kayleigh Aitken (Presbyterian) and Emma Calhoun (Winthrop).
 
Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Bailey Stratton (Longwood), Ayla Galloway (Mercer), Emily Currie (Presbyterian) and Christina Warren (Winthrop).
