Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian and Mercer collected their first Big South wins of the season on Saturday, while High Point improved to 2-0 in league play.
GARDNER-WEBB 14, LONGWOOD 12 | BOX SCORE
Junior midfielder Emma Duchscherer scored a game-high four goals while leading the Gardner-Webb (1-9, 1-1) women's lacrosse team to its first win of the season after taking down visiting Longwood (0-8, 0-1) by the final of 14-12 on Saturday afternoon inside Spangler Stadium.
PRESBYTERIAN 13, RADFORD 12 | BOX SCORE
Accomplishing the program's most first-half goals against a Big South opponent since 2012, the Presbyterian College lacrosse team rode an electric offensive wave to a 13-12 victory at Radford on Saturday afternoon. The senior/sophomore duo of Willow Hammond and Emma Claire Mills combined for eight scores – all in the first 30 minutes – as the Blue Hose logged their first conference win of the year, compiling 36 shots and earning the W despite just one goal in the second half.
MERCER 22, WOFFORD 8 | BOX SCORE
Sofia D'Angelo had a career high six points to lead Mercer to a resounding 22-8 win over Wofford in the Big South opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon from Five Star Stadium. The win was the 100th career win for Mercer head coach Samantha Eustace. Coach Eustace who is in her 10th year leading the Bears is now 100-68 as head coach with Mercer. Mercer's 22 goals and 31 points were a season high. The Bears scored at least five goals in all four quarters and outshot the Terriers 41-14 including a 31-9 shots on goal advantage in a strong overall performance.
HIGH POINT 20, WINTHROP 6 | BOX SCORE
The High Point University women's lacrosse team capped a a special weekend with a 20-6 victory over Winthrop University on Senior Day Saturday. It was the fifth straight victory for HPU. The Panthers honored three seniors — Allie Connally, Esprit Cha, and Mandy Brockamp — with a senior banquet on Friday followed by a pre-game ceremony on Saturday before first draw. HPU welcomed back alumni and held its annual Mason 5k Run, which benefits the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, on Saturday morning as well.
