CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- Longwood catcher/utility player Maryanna Guy (Brandon, Miss.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week, while Radford’s Dakota Redmon (Stokesdale, N.C.) is the Pitcher of the Week for games played March 24-30, it was announced today.  In addition, Longwood’s Sophia Pisacano (Albertson, N.Y.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.

Guy batted .462 (6-13) in four games with three home runs, four runs scored and 12 RBI, in addition to slugging 1.154 and generating a .533 on-base percentage.  She hit a first-inning solo shot in the Lancers’ 16-3, five-inning win to open the Gardner-Webb series Saturday, and added a three-run blast in the fourth.  In game two vs. GWU, Guy lined a go-ahead two-run single to left in the fourth inning as Longwood won, 5-3.  She finished the weekend driving in five more runs with another three-run homer as well as a walk to help the Lancers to a 10-7, come-from-behind victory to sweep the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

Redmon went 2-0 with a 1.50 earned run average and two complete games to lead Radford to a pair of victories over USC Upstate this past weekend -- helping the Highlanders seal their first-ever series in over the Spartans.  Over 14 innings pitched, she allowed just three earned runs to the top offense in the conference and did not yield a home run while recording 29 out of 42 outs via groundout.  In game one of the series, Redmon went the distance with four strikeouts.  Despite some traffic on the bases in the sixth, Redmon stranded two runners in scoring position with one out to preserve the tie and set up the eventual 3-2, walk-off win.  Returning to the circle for the series finale, Redmon stranded 10 Spartans on the basepaths with timely strikeouts and groundouts in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings in the 3-1 victory.

Pisacano batted .667 (4-6) with four runs scored, two doubles, a triple and an RBI as Longwood swept a Big South series from Gardner-Webb at home.  She also collected two walks for a .750 on-base percentage and finished the weekend with a 1.333 slugging clip.  Pisacano walked and scored in the series opener, went 2-2 with a double and RBI in game two, and had a double, triple and two runs scored in the Lancers’ 10-7 comeback win on Sunday.
