Gardner-Webb scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the series opener over Radford on Friday night.  USC Upstate won its series opener over Winthrop.

GARDNER-WEBB 10, RADFORD 9 | BOX SCORE
Sophomore Gavin Johnson lofted a soft liner over the infield with the bases loaded, scoring three runs before a defensive miscue allowed the game-winning run to touch the plate as the Gardner-Webb (15-20, 5-5) baseball team scored five times in the bottom of the ninth, shocking visiting Radford (14-19, 3-7) 10-9 on Friday evening inside John Henry Moss Stadium.  Radford started fast after scoring three times following a homerun off the bat of Eli Hudgins in the top of the first inning, taking an early lead in the pivotal conference series.

USC UPSTATE 14, WINTHROP 3 | BOX SCORE
Returning home for the first time in six games, USC Upstate baseball looked right at home inside the friendly confines of Cleveland S. Harley Park as it plated 14 unanswered runs Friday night, leading to a 14-3 series-opening win over Winthrop. The Spartan offense backed a strong pitching performance that saw Upstate limit the Eagles to three hits on the night.  For the fourth straight start in Big South Conference play since joining the weekend rotation, sophomore right-handed pitcher Darin Kuskie turned in a career-long 5.0 innings of work, permitting two hits while striking out six.
