Big South Women's Lacrosse Summary - April 12
Mercer took over sole possession of first-place in the Big South standings with a 16-13 win over previously undefeated High Point. Wofford won its third-straight, while Furman and Gardner-Webb also picked up wins.
MERCER 16, HIGH POINT 13 | BOX SCORE
Caroline Glus and Sofia D'Angelo combined to score 10 of Mercer's 16 goals as the Bears defeated High Point, 16-13 Saturday afternoon from Five Star Stadium. With the win, the Bears move to 5-0 in the Big South while handing the Panthers their first conference loss of the season at 5-1. Mercer took control of the game with a great start to the third quarter, scoring five of the first six goals in the frame to take a 12-5 lead and rode out the lead until the final seconds.
WOFFORD 19, RADFORD 7 | BOX SCORE
With the score tied at 3-3 in the first quarter, the Wofford women's lacrosse team would score the next nine goals on the way to a 19-7 win over Radford at Gibbs Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the game, the team honored their four seniors as the Terriers have now won three straight games.
FURMAN 23, LONGWOOD 10 | BOX SCORE
The Furman women's lacrosse team set a new school record for points in a game Saturday afternoon as the Paladins remained undefeated at Paladin Stadium with a 23-10 victory over the Longwood Lancers in Big South Conference action. Furman moves its record to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the Big South. With the loss, Longwood drops to 1-11 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.
GARDNER-WEBB 8, PRESBYTERIAN 5 | BOX SCORE
Junior Emma Duchscherer and freshman Katie Westbrook netted three goals each as the Gardner-Webb (2-11, 2-3) women's lacrosse team picked up its second win of the season after taking down Presbyterian (4-10, 1-4) by the final of 8-5 on Saturday afternoon at Bailey Memorial Stadium. The Runnin' Bulldogs tallied 19 shots on the afternoon, 16 of which were on cage while forcing PC into 18 turnovers. Sophomore keeper Emma Anderson was clutch in goal for GWU, picking up 12 saves.
