Big South Announces Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - April 2
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions this past weekend of March 27-30.
Charleston Southern’s
Grenisha Thomas (Mesopotamia, St. Vincent & Grenadines) was selected the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while High Point’s
Sydney Horn (Lancaster, Pa.) earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors. High Point’s
Quiana Williams (Greensboro, N.C.) is the Women’s Freshman of the Week.
Thomas ran a personal-best 59.76 in the 400m Hurdles at the Raleigh Relays to finish sixth in the event, as well as establish the top time in the conference this season and the third-fastest time in school history. She also ran a PR in the 100m Hurdles (15.21), and was part of both the 4x100m relay (46.52) and 4x400m relay (3:42.43) for the Bucs. The 4x400 squad finished seventh at the meet and ranks first in the Big South in the event.
Horn opened her outdoor season with a clearance of 4.22m in the pole vault university elite category at the Texas Relays. She was 11th overall, and her performance leads the league.
Williams finished 20th in the 200m at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 24.16. She also anchored HPU’s 4x100m relay team that finished in 46.26 for the second-fastest time in the Big South this spring.
