Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - April 21

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Charleston Southern's Carsten Sandvig (Fountain Hills, AZ) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week for games played April 14-20, it was announced today. In addition, USC Upstate's Sierra Maness (Woodruff, S.C.) is the Pitcher of the Week while teammate Sophia Kardatzke (Jacksonville, Fla.) was selected as the Freshman of the Week honoree.
 
Sandvig was 9-for-16 at the plate in four games, batting .562 on the week. In the midweek contest against College of Charleston, she was 4 for 4 with an RBI, collecting her first ever four-hit game. During the Buccaneers weekend series at Longwood, she helped her team secure a much need series win, going 5-for-12 with one home run, two RBI and three runs scored.

Maness tallied a 3-0 week that included her 20th win of the season. She threw 15.0 innings across her three appearances, picking up 16 strikeouts and recording a 0.47 ERA with just one run allowed during the week. 

Kardatzke batted .500 for the week, going 6-for-12 at the plate while also being walked 5 times. She recorded a triple, three home runs, one of which was a grand slam, 8 RBIs and a stolen base during the 4-0 week for the Spartans.

Also nominated for Pitcher of the Week: Er'ron Burton (Longwood), Dakota Redmon (Radford) and Lonna Addison (Winthrop).
 
Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Sophia Pisacano (Longwood), Dakota Redmon (Radford) and Katie Beck (Winthrop).
