Big South Announces Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - April 24
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions this past weekend of April 17-20.
High Point’s
Brianna Malone (Barrington, N.H.) was selected the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while USC Upstate’s
Jessa Beach earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors. HPU’s
Quiana Williams (Greensboro, N.C.) is the Women’s Freshman of the Week.
Malone first broke the school record in the 1,500m run at the Wake Forest Invitational with a time of 4:15.37, which is third-fastest in Big South history. She placed 16th overall and eclipsed the program mark that stood for 20 years. The next day, Malone won the 800m at the Aggie Invitational with a PR-effort of 2:07.17 to move into ninth all-time in conference annals in that event.
Beach finished fifth in the hammer throw at the Georgia Tech Invitational with a distance of 56.13m, the top performance in the Big South this spring.
Williams finished fourth in the 200m at the Wake Forest Invitational with a time of 23.96. She also competed at the Aggie Invitational and posted a time of 11.53 in the 100m preliminaries before placing eighth in the final at 11.79. Williams helped the Panthers’ 4x400m Relay finish fourth in a time of 3:42.79.
