Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - April 28

Maryanna Guy (Brandon, Miss.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week for games played April 21-27, it was announced today. In addition, teammates
Er'ron Burton (Suffolk, Va.) and
Brooke Bennett (Crestwood, Ky.) have been named Pitcher and Freshman of the Week, respectively.
Guy batted .429 with five home runs, 10 RBIs, five walks and five runs scored. She helped Longwood to a 5-1 week, including a weekend road sweep at USC Upstate to clinch the number 2 seed in the upcoming Big South tournament. She hit three home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Queens on Tuesday, and had home runs in each of the final two games against the Spartans to help secure the sweep.
Burton went 3-0 with a 0.61 ERA in four appearances and three starts with two shutouts as Longwood posted a 5-1 week. She fired an eight-strikeout, one-hit, two-walk shutout in a 4-0 shutout at Queens Tuesday. Against USC Upstate, she earned the win in the series opener 5-2, and then pitched a shutout to close out the series Sunday, 4-0.
Bennett batted .316, slugged .526, walked four four times and got on base at a .435 clip to go with a home run, double and five runs scored. She helped Longwood to a 5-1 week with a three-game road sweep at USC Upstate to earn the number 2 seed in the upcoming Big South tournament.
