Big South Announces Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week - April 28
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Furman senior midfielder
Paige Harman (Fairport, N.Y.) has been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Presbyterian junior defender
Avery West (Keller, Texas) is the Defensive Player of the Week for games played April 21-27, it was announced today. In addition, Furman attacker
Lily Toole (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) has been named the Freshman of the Week.
Harman recorded a career-high seven goals and one assist to lead Furman past Mercer, snapping the Bears’ 24-game regular-season conference winning streak. She finished the week with 12 points on eight goals and four assists across two games, while also adding 11 draw controls, three ground balls, and one caused turnover. Against Mercer, Harman scored four of her seven goals in the second half, including the go-ahead goal with 6:04 remaining to give the Paladins a 17-16 lead. She also became Furman’s single-season points leader in the upset victory. On Saturday, Harman added a goal, three assists, seven draw controls, and two ground balls to help Furman clinch a share of the Big South regular-season title for the first time in program history.
West delivered a career-best performance in the regular-season finale against Wofford, totaling seven caused turnovers and eight ground balls, both career highs. Her seven caused turnovers marked the most by any player in the Big South this season and tied for the third-highest single-game total across NCAA Division I. West also added a draw control as she helped anchor the Blue Hose defense.
Toole scored 10 goals across two historic wins, including the overtime game-winner that snapped Mercer’s 24-game conference unbeaten streak. She scored five goals in each game and was credited with a second game-winner in the Paladins’ victory over Winthrop, which clinched Furman’s first-ever share of the Big South regular-season title. Against Mercer, Toole tallied four of her five goals in the second half and overtime, capping her performance with the decisive goal with 1:21 left in the extra period for an 18-17 upset win. She followed that effort by scoring four goals in the first quarter alone against Winthrop, posting a hat trick with just under four minutes remaining in the opening frame.
