Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week - April 7

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Longwood catcher Brooke Bennett (Crestwood, Ky.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week, while USC Upstate’s Sierra Maness (Woodruff, S.C.) is the Pitcher of the Week for games played March 31-April 6, it was announced today. In addition, Radford’s Dakota Redmon (Stokesdale, N.C.) was selected as the Freshman of the Week honoree.
 
Bennett batted .714 (5-for-7) over three games while scoring five runs and recording hits in every contest. Her biggest performance came in the series finale against Presbyterian, where she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI, and two runs scored. The two homers marked the first of her collegiate career, and she drove in half of Longwood’s runs in the 6–1 victory. Bennett was also flawless in the field throughout the week.
 
Maness went 2-0 on the week with a pair of complete-game victories to lead USC Upstate to a series win over Winthrop. She struck out 11 over 14.0 innings while allowing just one run and nine hits. Maness gave up five hits and just one earned run in Friday’s 2-1 triumph before posting a complete-game, four-hit shutout on Saturday. She finished the week with an impressive 0.50 ERA and now leads the team with 15 wins in the circle.
 
Redmon picked up two wins in three appearances on the week to help Radford to a 3-1 record against Campbell and Charleston Southern. The freshman entered in relief against the Camels in a 1-1 game in the sixth and held them scoreless over three innings to secure an extra-inning win. In the series opener against Charleston Southern, she allowed just four hits and two runs, including a clutch seventh inning to seal her second win in the circle in as many outings. Redmon returned for game three and turned in another strong outing, giving up just one earned run on three hits while striking out three.
