High Point Extends Lead in Big South Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Four-time defending champion
High Point extended its lead at the 2025 Big South Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships following the second day of competition at the Karl Straus Track on the campus of UNC Asheville. The Panthers are in front with 130 team points through nine scored events, with
USC Upstate in second-place at 56 points.
Charleston Southern is in third-place with 50 points.
Charleston Southern’s
Aaron Pierce opened the day’s competition with a victory in the re-scheduled javelin with a PR throw of 66.87m, becoming the first CSU athlete to win the event since 2002. Following a two-hour lightning delay in the afternoon, High Point’s
Cole Wilson completed his back-to-back decathlon championship with a Big South Championship Meet-record 7,609 points. He led a trio of Panther decathletes on the medal stand, as
Evan Mills (6,750) was second, followed by
David Caivano (6,268) in third.
Gardner-Webb’s
Quentin Peterson won his second gold medal of the Championship when he clinched the shot put with a Championship Meet-record throw of 18.82m, becoming the first athlete since 2008 to win both the shot put and hammer at the same Meet. USC Upstate’s
Xavier Stone won the triple jump with a distance of 15.15m -- marking the Spartans’ second consecutive Big South Triple Jump Champion, while UNC Asheville’s
Jan Malek became the program’s first 3,000m Steeplechase champion since 2006 with a winning time of 9:02.47.
In addition to Wilson and Peterson, High Point’s
Camerin Williams set a Championship Meet-record with his time of 1:48.08 in the 800m preliminary.
