High Point Wins 2025 Big South Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –
High Point won nine events and accumulated 226.5 team points on Wednesday to win the 2025 Big South Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship title. The Panthers finished with a final total of 287.5 points -- just 1.5 points shy of tying the Conference record of 289 -- for the program’s fifth consecutive crown.
Charleston Southern was second with 152 points, while
Gardner-Webb finished in third-place with 105 points.
High Point compiled 19 podium finishes Wednesday, including sweeps in the pole vault and 800m. The Panthers earned gold medals from
Rachel Vesper (pole vault),
Gianna Paul (high jump),
Addie Freeland (javelin),
Brianna Malone (1,500m, 800m),
Dae’Nitra Hester (400m, 200m),
Quiana Williams (100m) and the
4x100m Relay. Malone established Championship Meet records in her two wins, first running a 4:19.78 in the 1,500m, followed by a 2:05.34 effort in the 800m. In other action, Charleston Southern swept the 100m Hurdles and claimed the top two spots in the 400m Hurdles, and capped the evening with the 4x400m crown in a time of 3:40.26. Radford’s
Sienna Bailey used a 1:09.7 split time in the final 400 meters to win the 5,000m run.
USC Upstate’s
Rachel Davis won her third gold medal, as she finished first in the discus with a throw of 50.53m, becoming just the second athlete in Big South history to win the hammer, shot put and discus at the same Championship Meet. She accumulated 30 overall points to earn her the Most Valuable Athlete award.
Charleston Southern’s
Maëva Tahou claimed Freshman of the Year honors for having the most accumulated points by a freshman with 26. High Point’s Vesper earned Most Outstanding Performance based on having the highest ranking performance nationally at the meet using current TFFRS marks, as her pole vault winning height of 4.32m ranks tied for 30th in the country. HPU’s
Alyssa Hendrix clinched the Newcomer of the Year award, which was added in 2024 to recognize the top non-freshman transfer competing in the Big South for the first time, based on her eight accumulated points.
High Point was voted Coaching Staff of the Year by the league coaches at the conclusion of the meet, while HPU’s Malone was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league’s sports information directors.
