LUBBOCK, Texas — High Point University's Julia McLaughlin, better known as Jules, represented the women's golf team at the 2025 DI Women's Golf Championships and did so in impressive fashion.
Through rough winds and weather delays, the Big South Conference medalist used a 2-under-par 70 final round to finish 24th at the Lubbock Regional, hosted by Texas Tech University, on Tuesday in the Lone Star State.
Head Coach Lyndsey Hunnell: "It was just a perfect last round for Jules to hang her collegiate hat on. Through two days of 25-plus mph gusts and constant weather changes, her last round was a perfect break in the storm. She played beautifully and it was an honor to walk beside her that final round. You could see how much her game has grown in the past two years here and the level of player she has become. You could also sense the maturity in her game with how she handled her final hole. With an hour and a half break for lightning, she was still able to get back into tournament mode and finish with a birdie. It has been such an honor to be Jules' coach, and I hope she enjoyed spending her last two years of eligibility with us. She has left her mark on this program and will forever be a part of our Panther family."
McLaughlin, a native of Princeton, N.J., adjusted to schedule changes all week as Sunday was originally planned to be just the practice round. Due to projected heavy rainfall, the tournament supervisors and coaches decided to move round one following the practice round on Sunday afternoon.
After a long day of play, McLaughlin shot a 5-over 77 with five birdies in the first round. The inclement weather shifted overnight Sunday into Monday, allowing play to continue despite rumblings it would be delayed a full day. In her next 18 holes, the graduate golfer sunk four birdies and carded a 4-over-par 76.
Despite tee times being pushed back an hour and lightning delay on the 18th hole, Mother Nature allowed the tournament to wrap up a day early as the third round concluded on Tuesday.
McLaughlin saved her best round for last, sinking four birdies and turning in a 2-under-par 70 scorecard for her final collegiate round. She birdied the last hole of her career and was fourth among all golfers with 11 birdies through 54 holes.
Before the tournament, McLaughlin graduated with her MBA and leaves HPU as the fourth women's golfer to be crowned the Big South Medalist and play in the NCAA Regionals.
