USC Upstate's Alexa Martinos Named NCAA Accelerating Academic Success Program Award Recipient
By USC Upstate Athletics
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA announced the Accelerating Academic Success Program (AASP) honorees. The award provides student-athletes who are pursuing careers in intercollegiate athletics access to NCAA student-athlete professional development programming events such as the Career in Sports Forum and the AASP Conference.
Among the recipients was Upstate's
Alexa Martinos, a graduate women's soccer student-athlete majoring in exercise and sport science. Martinos has been interning with the athletic department under the guidance of AD Matt Martin, pursuing her goal of becoming an athletic director.
The AASP was established in 2012 by the NCAA Board of Governors (formerly the NCAA Executive Committee). Through the program, the NCAA has awarded more than $1 million annually to schools with limited financial resources in an effort to help them meet NCAA academic standards. The grant dollars assist the Division I schools as they develop programs and systems to increase graduation rates and to ensure student-athletes' academic success.
