Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week - Aug. 25

Daniel Lugo (Saint Petersburg, Fla.) have been named the Big South Men’s Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Gardner-Webb goalkeeper
Alan Horrocks (Merlo, San Luis, Argentina) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played in the opening week of the regular season, it was announced today. In addition, USC Upstate midfielder
Lucas Bergfors (Nyokping, Sweden) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
Orr tallied three goals, one assist and seven points, including both game-winners in Gardner-Webb’s victories over Drexel and James Madison. He scored twice in Thursday’s season opener against Drexel for his first career multi-goal match, and added an assist to finish with a career-high five points in the 4-0 win. On Sunday, he also netted the lone goal in the 26th minute to secure a 1-0 road victory over James Madison. Orr finished the week with a perfect 1.000 shot percentage, scoring on all three of his attempts in 121 total minutes.
Lugo scored both goals in No. 24 High Point’s 2-1 season-opening win over No. 14/25 Georgetown. The redshirt sophomore netted his first career goal on a header in the third minute to give the Panthers an early lead, then added his second in the 63rd minute for the eventual game-winner. Lugo finished with two goals on two shots in 67 minutes of action.
Horrocks recorded back-to-back shutouts to help Gardner-Webb open 2025 season with a pair of victories. He made three second-half saves in a 4-0 win over Drexel in Thursday’s season opener, then added two saves on nine shots in a 1-0 road victory at James Madison. The senior played all 180 minutes in goal and finished with a perfect 1.000 save percentage on 14 total shots faced.
Bergfors recorded a goal and an assist in his collegiate debut, contributing to both USC Upstate scores in a 2-2 draw against Georgia State on Thursday. The freshman from Sweden assisted on the Spartans’ first goal of the season in the fourth minute and netted the equalizer 45 seconds into the second half. He totaled 94 minutes on the week, including 50 at Liberty on Sunday, and scored on his only shot attempt.
