Big South Announces Women's Soccer Players of the Week - Aug. 25

Cordelia McIntosh (Haymarket, Va.) has been named the Big South Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb goalkeeper
Savannah Dixon (Raleigh, N.C.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Aug. 18-24, it was announced today. In addition, Longwood forward
Sam Fischer (Charlottesville, Va.) has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
McIntosh assisted on the tying goal and then scored the game-winner in Winthrop’s 2-1 comeback victory over The Citadel. Trailing in the 80th minute, the sophomore forced a turnover and set up teammate Monssi Avila-Gutierrez for the equalizer. She later intercepted another pass in the 88th minute and converted a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper for the deciding goal. It was her first career goal, and her three points in 36 minutes marked a career high.
Dixon recorded a career-high 10 saves on 22 shots in Gardner-Webb’s narrow 1-0 loss to Elon on Sunday night. The senior keeper posted a .909 save percentage and held the Phoenix scoreless through the first 85 minutes of action. She made six saves in the first half and four in the second while facing 11 shots in each period. Dixon played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Fischer recorded two goals and an assist in Longwood’s 5-3 win over VMI. The freshman opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and assisted on Peyton Curney’s goal seven minutes later for a 2-0 lead. She later added the eventual game-winner in the 51st minute to secure her first career multi-goal match and finish with a career-high five points. Fischer logged 36 minutes against the Keydets and 52 in a match against Charlotte on Sunday, totaling seven shots across the two contests with three on target.
