Big South Announces Volleyball Players of the Week - Sept. 15

Avery Jolley (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been selected the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 8-14, it was announced today. In addition, teammates
Rachel McCollum (Lakeland, Tenn.) and
Isabella Murray (Norcross, Ga.) are the Setters of the Week, Charleston Southern’s
Presley Morris (Little Rock, Ark.) was voted the Libero of the Week, and Gardner-Webb outside hitter
Haedyn Crumbley (Bishop, Ga.) earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors.
Jolley hit .354 with 52 kills (4.73 per set), 27 digs (2.45 per set) and 59.5 points (5.41 per set) in three matches last week. She opened with 14 kills, a .429 clip, five digs and two blocks in Winthrop’s sweep of North Florida. Jolley then posted a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs with two blocks in a 3-1 win over Alabama State. She concluded her weekend with a career-high 24 kills against Furman, in addition to 12 digs, four service aces and a .367 hitting percentage against the Paladins.
The duo of McCollum and Murray accounted for 129 assists over the weekend -- 85 percent of the Eagles assists). McCollum amassed 72 total assists in 11 sets played, along with 32 kills and 25 digs. She posted a triple-double against Alabama State, the program’s first since 2012, as she tallied 16 kills, 23 assists and 10 digs in the four-set victory. McCollum had a near triple-double against Furman with nine kills, 21 assists and 12 digs. Murray totaled 57 assists in seven sets played (8.14 per set) in her appearances against Alabama State and Furman.
Morris helped the Buccaneers to a 2-1 weekend with 63 digs in 12 sets played (5.25 per set average), in addition to 12 assists and three service aces. She first had 21 digs vs. Jacksonville, then turned in 23 digs along with three aces in a five-set win over Bethune-Cookman. Morris closed the weekend with 19 digs in a sweep of South Carolina State, tied for the most by a Big South player in a three-set match last week.
Crumbley helped the Runnin’ Bulldogs extend their win streak to five as she posted 30 kills, a .225 hitting percentage, 17 digs, five service aces and five blocks in Gardner-Webb’s three matches last week. She opened with a 14-kill, 11-dig double-double in a sweep of Le Moyne, which included a .353 hitting clip, three service aces and three block assists. Crumbley also recorded 14 kills plus six digs in a victory at Navy.
