Big South Announces Volleyball Players of the Week - Sept. 8

Nalani McBride (Stafford, Va.) was voted the Libero of the Week, and Upstate middle blocker
Kensley Haneline (Shelby, N.C.) earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors.
O’Grady led all Big South players in hitting percentage last week with a .409 hitting efficiency in four matches, as she amassed 55 kills (3.67 per set) and 60.0 points (4.00 average). The only Big South player last week with two matches hitting .500-or-better (min. 12 kills), O’Grady complemented her kills and point totals with 10 digs, eight total blocks, and one assist. She began the week with a career-best 20 kills behind a .514 hitting efficiency versus Queens. O’Grady later registered 14 kills and three total blocks in Upstate’s 3-1 victory over North Alabama, and closed the weekend with 15 kills on a .577 hitting efficiency in a 3-1 triumph over Tennessee Tech, adding two total blocks.
Vega David was tops in the conference last week with 164 assists and 10.93 assists per set, and tallied 49 digs plus 11 blocks in her four appearances. She reached the 50-assist plateau twice -- accomplishing both in four-set matches. Vega David also had three double-doubles, eight kills, and three service aces. She opened her week with 54 assists versus Queens -- one shy of her career-high, along with 16 digs, three total blocks, and two service aces against the Royals. Vega David recorded another double-double with 39 assists and 12 digs against North Alabama, in addition to a career-high-tying five total blocks. She capped her weekend with a 51-assist, 15-dig double-double versus Tennessee Tech, adding three kills and one solo block.
McBride racked up 79 total digs and 5.27 digs per set in four matches last week, along with a service ace in each appearance. After recording 12 digs at N.C. Central last Tuesday, she posted 30 digs in a five-set setback at Campbell on Friday. McBride then turned in 17 digs in a sweep of UNC Greensboro, and finished with 20 digs and eight assists in Gardner-Webb’s 3-1 victory over Norfolk State to earn All-Tournament honors at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Dunn Campbell Invitational.
Haneline led all Big South freshmen in total blocks last week with 17 (1.13 per set), and finished her four appearances with 46 kills, a .333 hitting clip, and 56.5 points. She posted nine or more kills in all four of her matches, and hit .400 or better in all three contests at the Blazer Invitational. Haneline started her week with nine kills and five total blocks versus Queens, then recorded a team-high nine kills behind a .400 hitting efficiency versus UAB. She followed with 13 kills on a .409 hitting efficiency versus North Alabama -- plus a career-best eight total blocks against UNA, and concluded the week with a career-best 15 kills with a .462 hitting efficiency in a win over Tennessee Tech.
