Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - Jan. 19

Jonah Pierce (Sanford, Fla.) have been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week, while Radford forward
Frederik Erichsen (Copenhagen, Denmark) is the Freshman of the Week honoree for games played Jan. 12-18, it was announced today.
Jones led the Highlanders to consecutive wins with 26.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 52.9 percent from the field (18-of-34), 50.0 percent from three-point range (5-of-10) and 84.6 percent from the charity stripe (11-of-13). He opened with a career-high 27 points on the road at Gardner-Webb, as he made 10-of-19 from the floor, including three treys, in addition to three rebounds and two assists. Jones followed with 25 points Saturday against Longwood in which he beat the clock with the game-winning layup in the final second to secure the 85-83 victory. He added six boards, three assists and a steal against the Lancers.
Pierce helped the Blue Hose to back-to-back Big South victories with 22.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocked shots and a 62.1 field goal clip (18-of-29). He began his week with 24 points, 11 boards and three blocks as PC edged UNC Asheville, 71-70, last Wednesday. Pierce then tallied 20 points (shooting 9-of-12 from the floor) while grabbing 13 rebounds (four offensive) in Presbyterian’s 92-55 road win at Gardner-Webb on Saturday -- the program’s largest-ever margin of victory in a Big South road game.
Erichsen contributed 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in just 29 minutes off the bench in the Highlanders’ two victories. In 16 minutes at Gardner-Webb last Wednesday, he grabbed five rebounds, scored three points and tallied an assist and block. In Saturday’s two-point win over Longwood, Erichsen provided eight points, went 3-of-4 from the field, and had two caroms plus a blocked shot in 13 minutes of action.
