Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Jan. 19

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– High Point guard Macy Spencer (Katy, Texas) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb guard Makayla Legette (Latta, S.C.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 12-18, it was announced today.
 
Spencer recorded 22 points, five assists, four rebounds, two blocks and one steal as High Point remained unbeaten in Big South play with a 68-54 road win at Longwood. She shot 8-of-18 from the field ( =44.4 percent) and 4-of-9 from 3-point range ( =44.4) in 39 minutes as the Panthers handed the Lancers their first conference loss of the season. The junior scored 11 points in each half and has now eclipsed 20 points 11 times this season, including in five straight contests. She also finished a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
 
Legette averaged 11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals in a 1-1 week for Gardner-Webb. She shot 45.5 percent from the field (10-of-22) and knocked down two 3-pointers. The freshman opened the week by going 4-of-9 with eight points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal at Radford. She then made a career-high six field goals and totaled 14 points, four rebounds and four assists to help lead the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a 52-45 road win at Charleston Southern.
