Big South Announces Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Jan. 21
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions during the weekend of Jan. 15-18.
UNC Asheville’s
Shemarr Session (Marietta, Ga.) was selected the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, with High Point’s
Ricardo Montes de Oca (Venezuela) tabbed the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. UNC Asheville’s
Kelechi Anyanwu (Waldorf, Md.) and USC Upstate’s
Collin Bui-Hayes (Tampa, Fla.) shared Men’s Freshman of the Week honors.
Session won the 200m at the Tryon Winter Invitational with a time of 21.55, which ranks second in the conference this year. He also was part of the Bulldogs’ 4x400m relay that finished in 3:24.63.
Montes de Oca re-set his own Big South and program records in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.67m to win the event at the Virginia Tech Invitational. He bettered the previous record of 5.60m that he set last season.
Bui-Hayes was officially the runner-up in the 200m at the Tryon Winter Invitational with a time of 21.63, which is tied for third-best in the Big South this year and third all-time in school history.
