CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions during the weekend of Jan. 15-18.

UNC Asheville’s Alison Graf (Berlin, Germany) was selected the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while High Point’s Ashlyn Giles (Reading, Pa.) earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.  Radford’s Jaelynn Joiner (Richmond, Va.) was named the Freshman of the Week.

Graf set two school records at the Tryon Winter Invitational in winning both the 1,000m run and 600m race.  She first ran a 2:49.50 in the 1000m, in which she shaved nearly eight seconds off her previous school record of 2:57.28, set last season.  That performance is now second-fastest in Big South history.  Graf won the 600m in 1:34.70 to better the program mark by more than two seconds, as well as move into sixth on the conference’s all-time list.

Giles finished second in the shot put at the Virginia Tech Invitational with a school-record throw of 15.98m, which eclipsed her own record set earlier this season.  She is now tied for third all-time in the event in league annals.  Giles also established a personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 16.79m.

Joiner won the triple jump at the Tryon Winter Invitational with a leap of 12.19m, which is the top mark by a Big South freshman this season, and third overall.  The effort moved her into third on Radford’s all-time list.  Joiner was also part of a 4x400m relay squad that finished second in 3:54.61.
