Big South Announces Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - Jan. 28
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions during the weekend of Jan. 22-25.
Radford’s
Jeylah Hamrick (Williamsburg, Va.) was selected the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while High Point’s
Ashlyn Giles (Reading, Pa.) earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors. HPU’s
Kendall Hicks (Matthews, N.C.) was named the Freshman of the Week.
Hamrick won the 300m dash at the Hokie Invitational with a Big South-record time of 38.22. She re-broke her own school record in the event by almost two full seconds. Hamrick was also part of the Highlanders’ victory in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:44.20, which leads the conference this season.
Giles placed second in the shot put at the Hokie Invitational with a throw of 15.97m -- just 0.01m shy of her own program record. Giles has finished in the top two in all four starts this season.
Hicks placed fifth in the 60m dash at the Hokie Invitational with a personal-best time of 7.60. She also finished fifth in the 200m with a PR effort of 24.74. Hicks’ 60m and 200m times from the weekend are tops among all Big South freshman this year and third overall in both categories.
