Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Jan. 5

Tyonna Bailey (Newark, N.J.) has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Radford forward
Georgia Simonsen (Fairfax, Va.) is the Freshman of the Week for games played Dec. 22-Jan. 4, it was announced today.
Bailey averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in three contests, leading the Buccaneers to a 2-0 start in Big South play. She shot 42.6 percent from the field (20-of-47), 40.0 percent from 3-point range (8-of-20) and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line (18-of-21), while adding 1.3 steals per game. The junior scored a game-high 19 points and collected three rebounds in CSU’s nonconference finale at Georgia before erupting for 28 points, six rebounds and two steals in a 60-49 victory over USC Upstate in the Big South opener. She then totaled a game-high 19 points, a career-high nine rebounds and a season-high three assists to help the Buccaneers rally from a 17-point deficit to earn their first win at Radford since 2010.
Simonsen averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in two games for Radford. She shot 52.2 percent from the floor (12-of-23) and went 6-of-7 from the free-throw line (85.7 percent). The freshman finished with 15 points and five rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting in her first Big South contest, lifting the Highlanders to a 43-point road win at Presbyterian. She also scored 15 points against Charleston Southern, establishing a career high with seven made field goals (7-of-15) while adding eight rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
