CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – High Point middle blocker Maya Bukovcan (Ottawa, Ontario) has been selected the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 5-11, it was announced today.  In addition, teammate Remy Catojo (Winnipeg, Manitoba) is the Setter of the Week, HPU’s Kea Whillock (Keller, Texas) was voted the Libero of the Week and Gardner-Webb’s Parker LaFontaine (Las Vegas, Nev.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree. 
 
Bukovcan posted a .500 attack percentage on 39 kills and just six errors in three matches last week, in addition to 22 blocks (1.69 per set) and 52.0 points (4.00).  She also hit .450 in the Panthers’ two Big South wins.  Bukovcan opened with 17 kills, 20.5 points, a .571 clip and seven total blocks in a five-set defeat at College of Charleston on Tuesday.  She then tallied 12 kills and six blocks in HPU’s 3-1 win over Gardner-Webb on Friday, and finished her weekend with a .600 percentage (10-1-15) and nine blocks in the Panthers’ four-set victory over previously-undefeated Winthrop on Saturday.
 
Catojo accumulated 123 assists (9.46 per set) along with 28 digs (2.15), five blocks and 14 kills for the Panthers.  After recording a 47-assist, 10-dig double-double with eight kills at College of Charleston, Catojo posted another double-double with 36 assists and 10 digs in the victory over Gardner-Webb.  She concluded her weekend with 40 assists plus eight digs as High Point hit .387 as a team in its win over Winthrop.
 
Whillock totaled 60 digs in her three appearances and averaged 4.62 digs per set.  She first tallied 25 digs in HPU’s defeat at College of Charleston, followed by 19 in the Gardner-Webb win.  Whillock recorded 16 digs in the weekend finale against Winthrop.
 
Parker hit .438 on the weekend with 17 total kills and just three errors.  In Gardner-Webb’s five-set loss at Radford, she hit .579 on 12 kills in 19 attempts with one error, and recorded three digs and one block.
