Big South Announces Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week - Feb. 17

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– Mercer attacker Maya Maldonado (Canton, Ga.) has been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Winthrop defender Lily Davis (Glenwood, Md.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for games played Feb. 9-15, it was announced today. In addition, Gardner-Webb midfielder Maddie Tredway (Alpharetta, Ga.) has been named the Freshman of the Week.
 
Maldonado tallied a career-high four points on two goals and two assists at Vanderbilt. She put four of her five shots on goal. The senior scored the Bears’ first goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the opening quarter, then added her second goal at the 13:38 mark of the second quarter. In the second half, Maldonado assisted on back-to-back goals, first with 5:01 remaining in the third quarter and again at the 2:46 mark.
 
Davis anchored the defensive effort for Winthrop, causing three turnovers and collecting a career-high eight ground balls to help the Eagles earn a season-opening overtime victory against Kennesaw State. The senior also scored her first collegiate goal after forcing a turnover in the offensive half, scoring unassisted with 4:12 remaining in the first quarter to give Winthrop a 2-1 lead.
 
Tredway recorded a career-high 12 draw controls for Gardner-Webb against Campbell, the most in the Big South this season and four shy of the conference record. She also picked up a career-high three ground balls, put two of her three shots on goal and had one free-position attempt.
 
Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Bella Germani (High Point), Alexandra Hirst (Longwood), Kate Dominick (Charleston Southern), Mady Cheney (Radford), Emily Hollinger (Winthrop) and McKenzie Moeller (Wofford). 
 
Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Ava Welsh (High Point), Isabella McCullough (Longwood), McKenzie Ward (Mercer), Avery West (Presbyterian), Ava LaManna (Radford) and Olivia Graebner (Wofford).
 
Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Sophia Andrychowski (Mercer) and Sara Fenwick (Wofford).
