Big South Announces Women's Tennis Players of the Week - Feb. 18

Laura Wipfli (Ecublens, Switzerland) has been named the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week, while teammate
Diana Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) was named Freshman of the Week for matches played Feb. 9-15, it was announced today.
Wipfli helped lead NJIT to a 2-0 week with wins over St. Joseph’s and Rhode Island. Against St. Joseph’s, Wipfli teamed up with Irene Cocero to earn a 6-0 win on the No. 1 doubles court. She followed with a 6-1,6-2 straight -set victory on the No. 1 singles court. Wipfli and Cocero earned another win (6-3) on the No. 1 doubles court against URI. Wipfli also defeated Nikki Fernando 6-3,6-2 on the No.1 singles court.
Fernandes teamed up with Petra Koszo to earn a 6-2 win on the No. 3 doubles court against St. Joseph’s. Against Rhode Island, she capped the afternoon for NJIT with a comeback victory, rallying past Miruna Scarlat by a score of 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 at the sixth spot.
