High Point Leads 2026 Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship Following Day 1

MILL SPRING, N.C. -- High Point University leads the 2026 Big South Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship following the first day of competition.  The Panthers hold the lead with 69 points after five scored events, ahead of second-place USC Upstate (39 points).  Charleston Southern sits in third-place with 36 points, followed by Gardner-Webb in fourth (22 points) and UNC Asheville in fifth (18 points).

Two Championship Meet records were broken on Friday. High Point's Justin Sluijter won the long jump with a Big South record and Championship Meet record distance of 7.89m to repeat as the individual champion.  HPU's Ricardo Montes de Oca was the winner in the pole vault with a Championship Meet record clearance of 5.37m.  Gardner-Webb's Quentin Peterson won the weight throw for the third consecutive year with his winning mark of 20.00m.  HPU repeated as the Distance Medley Relay champions (10:02.13), while Charleston Southern's Martin Iriondo took home the 5,000m gold medal with his time of 14:53.61.
