High Point Leads 2026 Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship After Day 1
MILL SPRING, N.C. -- High Point University leads the 2026 Big South Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship following the first day of competition, as the Panthers won the high jump, pentathlon and 5,000m run as part of its 86 points on Friday. Gardner-Webb is second with 40 points after six scored events, followed by Charleston Southern in third-place (38), Radford in fourth (24) and USC Upstate in fifth (21).
High Point's
Mya Hines won the pentathlon with 3,717 points, the first Panther to win gold in the event since 2022. HPU's
Gianna Paul won the high jump (1.65m) -- High Point's fourth-straight year winning that event, while
Alyssa Hendrix repeated as the 5,000m champion with her time of 16:44.04 as HPU swept the podium in that event. Charleston Southern won two golds on Friday.
Maeva Tahou was the champion in the long jump with a Big South record and Championship Meet record distance of 6.31m, while Paul was second as her effort of 6.24m also surpassed the previous record of 6.19. CSU's
Zemaya Carson was the winner in the weight throw with a heave of 19.24m.
UNC Asheville won the Distance Medlay Relay with a time of 11:59.05, marking the Bulldogs' first Big South DMR title since 2013.
