Big South Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Week - March 1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Charleston Southern forward Jesse Hafemeister (Mendham, N.J.) and UNC Asheville’s Kameron Taylor (Charlotte, N.C.) have been named the Big South Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week for games played the final week of the regular-season, it was announced today.  In addition, Gardner-Webb guard Spence Sims (Fairhope, Ala.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.
 
Hafemeister helped the Bucs to a 2-0 week with 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and was 14-of-21 from the field ( =66.7 percent) and 11-of-18 from beyond the arc ( =61.1 percent).  He opened with 16 points and six rebounds in Charleston Southern’s 86-84 win over Winthrop last Thursday.  Hafemeister followed with a team-high 28 points at UNC Asheville on Saturday, including a 7-of-10 effort from long range along with five boards and two assists.
 
Taylor averaged 29.5 points, 6.5 rebounds (3.0 offensive), 3.5 assists and was 20-of-38 from the floor ( =52.6 percent) in two games last week.  He first led the Bulldogs with 24 points and five assists in a 77-71 road victory at Gardner-Webb on Thursday, where he shared the rebounding lead with eight.  Taylor then scored a career-high 35 points Saturday vs. CSU -- the most points in a game by a Bulldog in two seasons, in addition to five caroms, two assists, one block and one steal.
 
Sims averaged 10.5 points and went 6-of-12 from three-point range in two games last week.  He opened with nine points in 15 minutes off the bench against UNC Asheville, and then was the squad’s second-leading scorer at USC Upstate on Saturday with 12 points.
