Georgia Simonsen (Fairfax, Va.) is the Freshmen of the Week for games played during the final week of the regular season, it was announced today.
Porter recorded two double-doubles and averaged 19.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a 1-1 week for Winthrop. She shot 65.4 percent from the field (17-of-26) and was 4-of-4 from the free throw line. The junior opened the week with 16 points, 11 rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block in 35 minutes against UNC Asheville, shooting 8-of-12 from the floor with five offensive rebounds. Porter followed with 23 points, 13 rebounds and four steals in a win over Charleston Southern as the Eagles clinched the No. 5 seed in the Big South Tournament.
Brown averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals to lead Longwood to a 2-0 week. She shot 55.6 percent from the field (15-of-27), 50.0 percent from three (7-of-14) and 77.8 percent from the free throw line (7-of-9). The graduate guard scored a career-high 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting against Charleston Southern, connecting on 5-of-9 from 3-point range while adding five rebounds, three assists and one steal. She then went 7-of-11 from the floor and finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in a victory over Presbyterian, helping the Lancers secure their second consecutive 20-win regular season.
Simonsen posted the top two scoring games of her career while averaging 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a 2-0 week for Radford. She shot 70.0 percent from the field (21-of-30) and was 2-of-2 from the line. The freshman forward scored a career-high 24 points on 12-of-16 shooting against Presbyterian, adding four rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal. She followed with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and nine rebounds in a six-point win at Gardner-Webb as the Highlanders secured the No. 2 seed in the Big South Tournament.
