Big South Announces Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week - March 10

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com– Furman midfielder Shae Insinga (Wantagh, N.Y.) has been named the Big South Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Wofford defender Brooke Meltcher (Wading River, N.Y.) is the Defensive Player of the Week for games played March 2-8, it was announced today. In addition, Wofford midfielder Sara Fenwick (Reisterstown, Md.) has been named the Freshman of the Week.
 
Insinga led Furman with 13 goals and added three ground balls in three non-conference games. She scored at least three goals in all three contests, registering five goals against both Campbell and Old Dominion and finishing with three against St. Bonaventure. Her fifth and final goal against Old Dominion came with less than one second remaining in regulation and sent the game into overtime. She also converted all three of her free-position attempts during the week and tied her season high with two ground balls in the Campbell game.
 
Meltcher caused two turnovers and set a school record with eight ground balls for the Terriers against Campbell. She also won one draw control. The junior’s eight ground balls also set a personal high, besting her previous career mark of seven set in the previous game against Kennesaw State. She had five more ground balls than any player on either team, while her two caused turnovers tied for a team high.
 
Fenwick tied a career high with two goals against Campbell. She added one ground ball and tied for a team-high in goals scored, including converting on her lone free position attempt. The freshman tallied her first score with 1:24 to go before halftime, while she added another with 5:52 remaining in the third quarter to cut the deficit to three. 
 
Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Madison Rogers (Longwood), Sofia D’Angelo (Mercer), Alyssa Perez (Presbyterian), Ava-Claire Collins (Winthrop) and Carlie Cutinella (Wofford).
 
Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Emma Anderson (Gardner-Webb), Bella Germani (High Point), Isabella McCullough (Longwood), Morgan Thompson (Presbyterian) and Lily Thompson (Winthrop).
 
Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Maddie Tredway (Gardner-Webb) and Tiffany Kelley (Winthrop).
