Big South Announces Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - March 26
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – The Big South Conference announced today its Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competitions during March 19-22.
Charleston Southern’s
Maeva Tahou (Locarno, TI, Switzerland) and Radford’s
Jaslyne Robinson (Midlothian, Va.) were selected the Women’s Co-Track Athlete of the Week, while High Point’s
Ashlyn Giles (Reading, Pa.) earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week accolades. Radford’s
Jaelynn Joiner (Richmond, Va.) was the Women’s Freshman of the Week honoree.
Tavou won both the 100m hurdles and the triple jump at the Charlotte 49er Classic this past weekend. She won the hurdles in 13.60 seconds -- just 0.02 seconds off her personal best, and claimed the triple jump with a school-record leap of 12.80m -- the third-best performance in Big South history.
Robinson was the victor in the 400m hurdles at the Big South-SoCon Challenge with a time of 1:00.12 (second-best in school history). She was also part of the Highlanders’ 4x400m relay team that finished first in a school-record time of 3:42.43. Robinson was the runner-up in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.00 seconds (third all-time at Radford).
Giles broke two Big South Conference records in winning the shot put and discus at the Bob Davidson Team Challenge. She claimed the shot put with a record throw of 16.50m, surpassing the previous league record of 16.44m set in 2022. Giles then bested her own conference mark in the discus with a distance of 52.85m, eclipsing her previous best of 52.59m set just a week prior.
Joiner won the long jump at the Big South-SoCon Challenge with a school-record distance of 6.22m, which ranks third all-time in league history. She added a sixth-place finish in the 200m with a time of 25.00.
