Matija Samardzic (Podgorica, Montenegro) has been named the Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week while Gardner-Webb’s
Noah Zeiger (Heildberg, Germany) was named the Freshman of the Week honoree for matches played March 23-29, it was announced today.
Samardzic went 2-0 at the top singles flight and 2-0 on the No. 1 doubles court last week. He posted a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against No. 73 Kennesaw State. He teamed with David Mamalat at No.1 doubles to tally a 7-5 victory to help the Blue Hose capture the doubles point. Against Campbell on March 28, Samardzic tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, and again secured a victory with Mamalat at the top doubles flight with a 6-3 triumph for another doubles' clinching win.
Zeiger helped guide Gardner-Webb to a 5-2 win at Davidson on Sunday afternoon, running the 'Dawgs win streak to seven in a row. He played at No. 2 singles for the first time this year and tallied a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set win.
