Big South Announces Baseball Players of the Week - April 13

Wylie Waters (Vancouver, British Columbia) has been named the Big South Baseball Player of the Week, while High Point’s
Ty Brachbill (Shelbyville, Ill.) is the Starting Pitcher of the Week for games played April 6-12, it was announced today. In addition, Presbyterian College’s
Mikey Marroquin Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) was selected as the Relief Pitcher of the Week, while USC Upstate outfielder
Trey Bentley (Mulberry, Fla.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.
Waters batted .467 (7-for-15) with three home runs and 10 RBI while scoring six runs in a 3-1 week for USC Upstate. He added a double and a triple, posting a 1.267 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage while recording at least one hit in all four games. Waters opened the week with a home run and a season-high four RBI in an 18-11 win at Western Carolina, then added a hit and a run scored in the series opener against Charleston Southern. He followed with a 3-for-5 performance in Game 2 against the Buccaneers, driving in four runs for the second time in three games and finishing a single shy of the cycle. Waters went on to homer for the second straight game in the series finale to cap a 1-for-3 day with two RBI and two runs scored.
Brachbill tossed a complete-game victory for High Point against Radford, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks. He held the Highlanders to a .200 batting average and recorded his second consecutive complete-game outing. The junior right-hander retired the side in order in each of the first three innings and held Radford scoreless through the first 5.2 frames. Brachbill faced 33 batters and needed just 101 pitches to finish the complete-game effort.
Marroquin Jr. recorded his first career save with 2.1 hitless innings, allowing one walk while striking out two to help Presbyterian hand Winthrop its first Big South loss of the season. He retired seven of the eight batters he faced after entering with two outs in the seventh inning and stranding a runner on first. The sophomore worked around a walk in the eighth before retiring the side in order in the ninth to seal the victory.
Bentley slashed .353/.421/.824, going 6-for-17 with two home runs, two doubles, three RBI and six runs scored across four games. He also drew two walks while recording a hit in each contest. The freshman opened the week with a 2-for-5 effort against Western Carolina, totaling three runs scored, two RBI, a home run and a double. Bentley followed with a 1-for-4 outing with a double, a walk and a run scored in Game 1 against Charleston Southern, then went 1-for-3 in Game 2 with a home run, one RBI, two runs scored and a walk before closing the weekend 2-for-5 in the series finale.
